Yair Shapiro

Since 1996 Prof. Yair Shapiro has been the CEO of Assuta Medical Centers, Director of the Heller Institute of Medical Research, Sheba Medical Center, Tel-Aviv University Sackler School of Medicine (ameritus), as well as Dean of the School of Health Sciences at the Ariel University Center. Shapiro earned his medical degree from Hadassah Medical School, Jerusalem, in 1966. Aside from his medical degrees, Shapiro earned an MBA from Tel-Aviv University in 1974 an MPH from Hebrew University Medical School (1992) and is a graduate of the Advanced Management Program, Harvard Graduate School of Business (1993). Prof. Shapiro began his academic career as a senior lecturer of Environment Physiology and Medicine in the Israel Defense Forces Medical Corps from 1968 to 1978. Since then, he has been a lecturer and professor in medical schools around Israel. From 1983-1986, he was Director of Soroka Medical Center in Beer-Sheva and from 1987-1988, he was the Director of Belinson Medical Center in Petah Tikvah. From 1988-1992, he served as the Medical Director of Kupat Holim Clalit, Israel’s largest sick fund that at the time had 3 million members. Prof. Shapiro’s areas of specialization include occupational medicine, public health, medical management and health management.
