The Taub Center mourns the loss of Henry Taub (z”l)

Chairman of the Board 1994 to 2005 and Honorary Chairman in recent years

Mr. Henry Taub (z”l) was one of the Center’s principal founders and a pillar of support, a partner and companion. His generosity helped establish and create the firm foundations for one of Israel’s premier professional and independent research institutes – the Taub Center that bears his name.

Mr. Henry Taub (z”l), a Jewish community leader, filled a number of important roles in Jewish community life in the United States. He was President and Chairman of the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee between 1981 and 1986 during which time it was decided to establish the Center for Social Policy Studies in Israel – a research center that would one day bear his name.

Taub was among the leading proponents of a professional, independent, non-governmental institute that would conduct policy research on the primary social and economic issues facing Israel. He was one of the principal founders of the Center and, in honor and recognition of his long-standing support, the Center was renamed in 2003 to the Taub Center

Mr. Henry Taub was a founder and Chairman of Automatic Data Procession (ADP) from 1949 until 1970. ADP is one of the world’s largest providers of business outsourcing solutions.

Over all the years, Mr. Taub was involved in many areas of philanthropy. His involvement stemmed from a deep concern for the Jewish people and Israel and a profound interest in Jewish community life.

After serving as President and Chairman of the JDC, Mr. Taub served as Chair of the Board of Directors of the United Israel Appeal from 1986 to 1990. He also served on the Board of Trustees of New York University and for thirteen years was the Chair of the Board of Governors of the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology. He previously served as a member of the Board of the Rite-Aid Corporation, Hasbro Inc., Bank Leumi and Trust Company of New York, the Interfaith Hunger Appeal, and the New York Shakespeare Festival.

He established the Henry and Marilyn Taub Foundation which provides resources for various charitable endeavors including the Taub Institute for Research on Alzheimer ’s Disease and The Aging Brain at Columbia-Presbyterian Hospital as well as the Taub Urban Research Center at New York University.

Mr. Henry Taub passed away in New Jersey on March 31, 2011 at the age of 83. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marilyn, three children, and ten grandchildren. May his memory be a blessing.
